Growing up around sports clubs, I saw firsthand what these places mean to a community. They’re not just fields and clubrooms – they’re where kids grow confidence, parents catch up after work, volunteers give their time, and generations connect over shared passion. Whether it’s a Rugby game on a Saturday morning or a netball final under lights, clubs are the beating heart of grassroots sport in New Zealand and across the globe. But keeping these clubs, running is harder than ever. Rising costs, dwindling grants, and stretched volunteer bases mean many are doing more with less. At the same time, small businesses – the local cafes, tradies, physios, and real estate agents – are struggling to get cut-through in a noisy digital world. That’s where the idea for Rectangle came in.

We started Rectangle with one simple goal:

To connect local businesses with local sports clubs in a way that supports both. To do this we need to help Clubs elevate there offering. My time working in the OOH (Out of Home) Media Industry gives me the tools to make sure Rectangle clubs are positioned to add real value to sponsors

Rectangle makes it easy for clubs to offer local signage and sponsorship opportunities, and for businesses to promote themselves in front of real people in real communities, with real metrics. We’re building a marketplace where clubs can showcase their available signage space – whether it’s a fence banner, scoreboard, Team Kit or digital screen – and businesses can find the right fit, make a booking, and support a club that matters to them.

It’s not about flashy marketing. It’s about genuine, grassroots partnerships that put dollars back into local clubs and give businesses meaningful exposure. For clubs, this means unlocking new revenue without chasing sponsors door-to-door or managing clunky spreadsheets. For businesses, it’s a way to advertise where it matters – in the community – while knowing your spend is helping kids play sport, clubs upgrade gear, or pay the power bill.
